Enfield Council Nature Recovery

Enfield Council is investigating opportunities to improve biodiversity by creating new and expanded habitats for wildlife, and broaden access to our blue and green spaces.

The work at Enfield Chase is London’s largest woodland and nature restoration initiative. The aim is to convert up to 1,000 hectares of farmland into a publicly accessible nature space which links to our existing parks and open spaces. It will result in the creation of hundreds of hectares of new woodland, with ponds and wetlands that will be easily accessed through a network of footpaths and cycleways.

This will be one of the largest nature restoration projects close to a large city anywhere in the UK. It will deliver sustainable benefits locally, regionally and nationally.

Achievements so far

80 hectares of new accessible woodland – 142,000 trees planted, plus areas set aside for natural regeneration
Making space for water – 50 ponds and wetland scrapes provide valuable habitat and stormwater reduction
Access and usability – 3.5km of London Loop footpath upgraded
Community engagement – over 2,000 volunteers, plus hundreds of school children have taken part in planting events

<h2>🌿 Volunteer Day at Trent Park – Pond Planting</h2> Enfield Council invite you to come and join in for the continuation of the Landscape Recovery project at Enfield Chase. Come along and help London breathe for the future, take an active part in the restoration of our landscape, meet like minded people, experience the beautiful outdoors, see some rarer wildlife and speak with knowledgeable staff who can provide insight into the project and how you can get involved.&nbsp; 🌲What are we doing?The aim of the event is to work together to plant the new pond at Trent Park with water‑loving plants, helping to establish wetland habitat, improve biodiversity, and support the pond’s long‑term health. 🎒 What Do I Need to Bring?<ul><li>Water and your own lunch</li><li>Weather‑appropriate outdoor clothing</li><li>Sturdy boots or wellingtons</li><li>Waders if you have them (we will have a few available)</li></ul> Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided for all volunteers. The aim of the event is to work together in groups to take survival surveys, determine the survival rate for the new woodlands. We often discover wildlife and have fun as a group discovering different species of trees. What do I need to bring? We will provide teas, coffees and biscuits to all our volunteers. Please bring water and something to eat for lunch (Botany bay farm shop is a great option for lunch). There is no toilet available on site but Botany Bay is a short walk away. Please also dress suitably for the weather. An induction briefing and a health and safety talk will be given at the start of every event. Parking is available at the laybys for the duration of the event. A staff member or a member of Enfield Council staff will direct you once the events starts. Where is the event? By Train: Enfield Chase station is 1.8 miles away and Gordon Hill station is 1.2 miles away, served by Great Northern Rail. By Bicycle: Well done! The best environmentally friendly approach.
