Introduction:
The Level 3 in Archaeological Practice provides an ideal background for those seeking employment within the Archaeology sector. This course is accredited by a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification and is ideal for those first experiencing archaeology, and for those who have existing skills.
Through both theoretical and practical learning, students will gain real-world skills and experiences in the archaeological sector.
Aims:
The qualification is aimed at those who have no prior experience of archaeological practice. Its primary purpose is to develop the learner's occupational competence as an archaeologist so that they can gain employment or work towards another qualification (see Progression).
This qualification delivers the underpinning knowledge needed to meet the nationally recognised standard for the role and so provides a sound basis for working in the industry.
Learning Outcomes:
preparing learners for employment
preparing learners to progress to another qualification
meeting relevant programmes of learning
giving learners personal growth and engagement in learning
preparing learners to progress to the next level of English or Mathematics
The Course:
The Level 3 in Archaeological Practice is a competence-based qualification, therefore, it will, primarily, be delivered through practical, on-the-job training.
To achieve the qualification, students need a minimum of 22 credits. This is achieved through the completion of 4 mandatory units (14 credits), plus a further 8 credits from optional units.
Assessment:
This course will include multiple assessments spread across each unit. There will be a range of assessment formats across the units from questionnaires and written assignments to work products and visual evidence (photos, etc.).
Questionnaires will be administered at Jarrow Hall Training Centre in person, supervised by invigilators. Dates will be confirmed at a later date.
Each learner will need to upload all the assessment material/evidence of their work towards this qualification through the dedicated digital platform (Microsoft Teams) on their personal portfolio within the given deadlines. Opportunities for remediation and re-assessment will be available upon agreement with the assessor and IVQ.
