Kayaking Taster Session – Islington Boat Club

Join Islington Boat Club for a fun and active 1.5 hour kayaking taster session on the Regent’s Canal.

This introductory session gives young people the opportunity to try kayaking in a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment. Participants will learn the basics of paddling, including how to control and manoeuvre a kayak, before taking part in games and activities on the water.

No previous kayaking experience is required and all specialist equipment, including kayaks, paddles and buoyancy aids, will be provided.

Sessions are delivered on weekdays by appropriately qualified PaddleUK instructors and are designed to build confidence, develop new skills and give young people a positive first experience of paddle sport.

Our usual session slots are:

09:30 – 11:00

11:30 – 13:00

13:30 – 15:00

For mainstream school groups, the usual maximum group size is 30 participants, including accompanying school staff. This may be adjusted depending on the needs of the group and the level of support required.

For SEN school groups, group sizes and participant to instructor ratios will usually be lower. The needs of the group, required level of support and appropriate staffing arrangements will need to be discussed and assessed with Islington Boat Club before a booking can be confirmed.

Each school may be offered one free 11 by 11 kayaking session per term. Further progression sessions are available at an additional cost. Schools interested in continued kayaking opportunities or progression should contact Islington Boat Club to discuss available options.

Please note: Session slots can only be confirmed once the school has made contact with Darren at Islington Boat Club to discuss group requirements, expected participant numbers, any additional support needs and preferred dates. Session times and group sizes are subject to availability.

Once a session has been confirmed, the school will be sent the relevant booking and participant documentation to complete ahead of the visit.
