Northern Rights Signal Poverty Research
Northern Rights have interviewed households in South Tyneside using SIGNAL poverty software to understand how poverty has affected them. The findings are stark and the interview method provided a lot more insight than an initial assessment might.
What the research found:
It identified large numbers of people who are socially isolated in equal proportion across the entire borough of South Tyneside.
What can we do about these findings?
Following some initial meetings we believe that, through connected care, we can repair. As a community using ‘community cohesion’ models we can repair and restore our communities vibrant heart and the self-esteem of people living in our beautiful borough.
The Northern Rights & Big Local Jarrow CIC partnership are responding together.
We invite services, charities and businesses to get in touch to register to be part of our Community Repair Shop. We are hosting an event on Thursday September 26th at Big Local in Central Jarrow, we would like to invite you to this event.
What does the event aim to do?
The research findings will be presented at the event with some insights into how Signal works and how the research was carried out.
The September event aims to restore faith in the community by demonstrating a solutions focused approach. Things can and will get better if the issues are addressed. We have 3 basic aims in the event and on-going partnership work:
