Join our archaeologists at Jarrow Hall and learn about all things Archaeology!
Thursday 9th - Pottery: We will be exploring the creation of pottery, from clay to pot. We will carry out a series of experiments to prepare our clay and then to create our pots using different historical methods.
In the afternoon, we will handle pottery found in the JAM excavations. After this, Children can optionally 'fire' their clay pot to help it become pottery, though this often has a high failure rate.
Friday 10th - Excavation: We will look at how archaeologists find out evidence by digging. Using trowels, spades, wheelbarrows and other tools, we will set up test pits to explore archaeology as a career.
Thursday 16th - We will continue to excavate, as we did the week before. But we will introduce new tools such as mattocks and techniques such as archaeological drawing.
After lunch, we will explore Anglo-Saxon and Viking herbal remedies. We will create a remedy believed to cure eye infection and we will create your own herb charm to take away with you.
Friday 17th - Excavation: We will look at how archaeologists find out evidence by digging. Using trowels, spades, wheelbarrows and other tools, we will set up test pits to explore archaeology as a career.
After lunch, we will wash our finds and add them to our timeline.
