Join us for a fun and engaging activity learning about the plants that grow along London’s canals and try out camera-less photography!

We will spend some time exploring the canalside where you have a go at identifying and gathering plants with guidance from the workshop leader. You will then be shown how to make cyanotype prints using cuttings of plants and you will get to make your own prints to take home with you. No prior knowledge or experience is required and we will provide all the materials needed.

What is Cyanotype?

Cyanotype is one of the first forms of photography it is a camera-less technique that involves laying an object on photosensitive paper, exposing it to sun light and then washing with water to create stunning white and Prussian blue images.

The workshop is run by the Canal & River Trust in collaboration with Islington Boat Club.

After the workshop anyone who wishes to can stay at the club and enjoy some kayaking in the afternoon. The lunch hour is 1pm to 2pm and may not be supervised.

Participants are free to go off site during this time, or stay on site and have lunch. We advise bringing a packed lunch.

Kayaking

Wear loose layers - shorts/leggings; tshirt/jumper; flat shoes

Please bring a full change of clothes including shoes, towel and toiletries if you want to shower afterwards.

In hot weather: sunhat, sunscreen and a water bottle.

NO crocs, flip-flops or open toe sandals.

IBC will not accept liability for damage to or loss of personal property so please do not bring valuable items or wear expensive clothing to the club.
