Volunteer Shop Assistant

Role Overview

We are looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to be the face of our shop. You will welcome visitors, support customers, and keep things running smoothly. No prior retail or surf experience is needed, just enthusiasm!

• Location: 81 Newton Rd, Mumbles, Swansea, SA3 4BN, UK
• Commitment: Flexible hours, but looking for reliable commitment

What You'll Do

Daily Operations & Upkeep

• Opening: Turn on lights and prepare the shop for opening.
• Cleaning: Sweep and mop the floors to keep the space clean.
• Presentation: Keep the shop entrance and window displays looking clean, tidy, and inviting.
• Merchandising: Ensure items in the shop are clean, organized, and properly displayed.

Customer Service

• Welcoming: Greet and assist customers and visitors in a warm, inclusive manner.
• Inviting: Invite passersby into the shop and offer your help.
• Enquiries: Answer general questions in person (and ask senior staff for help if you are unsure)

Stock & Support

• Inventory: Ensure wetsuits are clearly labelled and priced.
• Stock Control: Record low stock and notify senior staff to order more.
• Sales: Process sales and donations (training provided).
• Teamwork: Support the wider Surfability team as needed.

Future Role Development

Surfability is currently seeking funding for a wetsuit upcycling project. Once secured, volunteers will have the exciting opportunity to learn how to operate sewing machines and upcycle old wetsuits into new products.
