About Our Charity

Here at NYCA, we work at the heart of Pillgwenlly to support children, young people and families through education, wellbeing, food support and community programmes.

Sustainability is already embedded within our work, from our weekly food pantry reducing food waste, to our community allotment, repair workshops, clothes swaps and youth-led green initiatives.

We are now looking for a Sustainability & Community Engagement Officer to help grow and strengthen this work.

This role is about turning environmental awareness into practical, measurable action within our community.

  • Salary: National Living Wage (pro rata)
  • Based at NYCA Cultural Hub, Newport

The Role

You will take ownership of NYCA’s sustainability activity, not just maintaining projects, but helping shape and grow them.

You will work across these main areas:

🌿 1. Sustainable Food & Growing

  • Lead the coordination of our weekly Community Food Pantry
  • Maintain and develop our community allotment
  • Support volunteers and young people to learn practical growing skills
  • Explore new food sustainability initiatives (composting, food growing workshops)

  • Design and deliver sustainability workshops for the wider community
  • Integrate green sessions into Kidtopia and Youth Club programmes
  • Work with volunteers to develop environmental awareness campaigns
  • Represent NYCA youth voices at the monthly Green Careers Youth Board, providing feedback, insights, and recommendations to ensure youth perspectives shape programme development and decision‑making.

  • Cares deeply about environmental and social impact
  • Is confident leading small groups and speaking to the community
  • Can organise their own time effectively
