Sustainable Wantage is a Community Action Group, part of a network of over 100 similar CAGs across Oxfordshire, focused on activities that protect and enhance our natural environment and strengthen our local community. We are run by volunteers interested in actions that have a positive impact and increase our resourcefulness and resilience as a community.

Come and lend a hand looking after Wantage Market Garden! We work on a variety of gardening and DIY tasks each Sunday afternoon. A great opportunity if:you're looking to learn to gardenyou love gardening but don't have much outdoor space at homeoryou just like working with others and enjoying a cuppa and a biscuit in return for your time! No need to book, just come along any Sunday to have a look around and get involved.All welcome.

Bring your garden tools, knives, secateurs, and other hand tools to our free sharpening session, run by qualified volunteers.We’ll be sharpening tools on the day to help you start the season safely and efficiently. The service is free, but donations are warmly welcomed to support Sustainable Wantage and future events like this.

<h2 class="ql-align-center">Don’t chuck it - Fix it!</h2> We have volunteer fixers ready to help you repair all kinds of household and electrical items;&nbsp;from toasters and toys, to hairdryers and hoovers.&nbsp;For sewing repairs or tool sharpening please contact wantagemix@gmail.com. We offer to look at your item for free. If you are able to leave a donation, this supports the time our volunteers generously give, and allows us to run more free events. We are happy to help investigate most items, please only book in items that are easily transportable by 1 person. Please note: we cannot look at microwaves. Booking is required, please select a time slot. Maximum of 2 items per person on each Repair Cafe date, please book separate slots for each item. Please be aware we are volunteers, not repair professionals. The repairers and organisers of the Repair Cafe are not liable for any loss that may result from advice and instructions concerning repairs or resulting from work performed in the Repair Café.

Thank you for booking to join our bats and moths hunt. Please meet at The Mix at 7.30pm. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather, a torch is also useful. If the weather&nbsp;is bad and we need to cancel or postpone&nbsp;we'll be in touch by email no later than 4pm on the day.&nbsp;

Join us for an evening learning about, and looking for, bats and moths. We will be meeting in The Mix to learn about moth biodiversity and identification, and to get to grips with using bat dectectors and setting up a moth trap, then heading out to explore Betjeman Park and Letcombe Brook at night to see what we can find. Warm waterproof clothing and walking boots or similar are recommended. For ages 7yrs+, all children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking essential as places are limited. And as bat and moth activity is very weather dependent no guarantees can be made!

If so why not join the Wild Wantage ‘Green Gym’, where you can help with practical outdoor tasks to improve habitats for local biodiversity. From gardening to tree planting, hedge care to scything, our regular volunteer work parties help your physical and mental well-being and our local environment. Apr Green Gym: The Old StablesThis month we will be back at the Old Stables for a general spring tidy - clearing leaves, weeding, checking on the bug hotel and compost bins. Meet outside Down to Earth Cafe at 10am.

Want to improve your bird ID skills or just love getting up and out in the morning?&nbsp;Join us for a dawn chorus walk on International Dawn Chorus Day.&nbsp; We will be meeting at Betjeman Park before heading along the Letcombe Brook corridor to Willow Walk, looking and listening for birds as we go.&nbsp; Followed by breakfast at 6.30am at Columbia Coffee in Wantage Market Place.
