Sustainable Wantage

Sustainable Wantage is a Community Action Group, part of a network of over 100 similar CAGs across Oxfordshire, focused on activities that protect and enhance our natural environment and strengthen our local community. We are run by volunteers interested in actions that have a positive impact and increase our resourcefulness and resilience as a community.

<h1>Apple Pruning Workshop </h1> <h2>Sunday 19th January 2025, 2:00-3:30 pm</h2>Location: Please meet in front of Wantage Community Support Services Building, Charlton Village Road, Wantage, OX12 7HG (by Wantage Market Garden). If you want to find out more about how to prune fruit trees then this workshop is for you.We have some young apple trees planted last year that are growing well, but to ensure strong growth and effective fruiting for years to come they must be pruned.Come and learn from an expert how to prune using these apple trees as a demonstration. We will cover when to prune, the tools needed and how to do it effectively. You are welcome to stay on at the end to join the Market Garden volunteers for tea and cake.

Meet in the Manor Road Recreation Ground Car park at 9.30AM.Please feel free to come for just the first part of the session if that works better for you. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring along gloves and a spade if you have them.

<h2 class="ql-align-center">Don’t chuck it - Fix it!</h2> We have volunteer fixers ready to help you repair all kinds of household and electrical items;&nbsp;from toasters and toys, to hairdryers and hoovers.&nbsp; We are happy to help investigate most items, please only book in items that are easily transportable by 1 person. We cannot look at microwaves. Booking is required, please select a time slot. Maximum of 2 items per person on each Repair Cafe date, please book separate slots for each item. We offer to look at your item for free, if you are able to make a donation to help us keep running the Repair Cafe that is appreciated. Please be aware we are volunteers, not repair professionals. The repairers and organisers of the Repair Cafe are not liable for any loss that may result from advice and instructions concerning repairs or resulting from work performed in the Repair Café.

From gardening to tree planting, hedge care to scything, our regular volunteer work parties help your physical and mental well-being and our local environment.
