Sustainable Wantage is a Community Action Group, part of a network of over 100 similar CAGs across Oxfordshire, focused on activities that protect and enhance our natural environment and strengthen our local community. We are run by volunteers interested in actions that have a positive impact and increase our resourcefulness and resilience as a community.

<h2 class="ql-align-center">Don’t chuck it - Fix it!</h2> We have volunteer fixers ready to help you repair all kinds of household and electrical items;&nbsp;from toasters and toys, to hairdryers and hoovers.&nbsp;For sewing repairs or tool sharpening please contact wantagemix@gmail.com. We are happy to help investigate most items, please only book in items that are easily transportable by 1 person. Please note: we cannot look at microwaves. Booking is required, please select a time slot. Maximum of 2 items per person on each Repair Cafe date, please book separate slots for each item. We offer to look at your item for free, if you are able to make a donation to help us keep running the Repair Cafe that is appreciated. Please be aware we are volunteers, not repair professionals. The repairers and organisers of the Repair Cafe are not liable for any loss that may result from advice and instructions concerning repairs or resulting from work performed in the Repair Café.

Sam Linfield, creator of carbon footprint tracker app ECOZE, will share how individuals can lead the charge in combating climate change. "Before ECOZE, I tried to understand what impacts my numerous sustainability efforts were having on my environmental footprint. Too often I would try to improve my actions and wondered what difference it was actually making... Along with others, I want to influence real change in brands and industry, all while doing my bit. Both are key to footprint reduction." In response to this problem Sam developed ECOZE which launched last year. Through systems that monitor travel, purchases, energy use, and more, the app helps users track and understand their carbon footprints while encouraging sustainable daily habits. This innovative approach bridges the gap between personal actions and measurable progress in sustainability efforts. With 72% of global greenhouse gas emissions tied to consumer behavior, the power of individual actions cannot be overstated. Sam will share his journey, and invite your thoughts on enhancing ECOZE and exploring ways to further empower collective climate action. Would you like to keep fit and help protect and enhance our local green spaces? If so why not join the Wild Wantage ‘Green Gym’, where you can help with practical outdoor tasks to improve habitats for local biodiversity. From gardening to tree planting, hedge care to scything, our regular volunteer work parties help your physical and mental well-being and our local environment. June: Creating a pollinator friendly plot at the Old StablesPlanting a bare bank with a selection of&nbsp;shrubs and perennials with different flowering times; creating a new area from scratch that will attract wildlife, and bring pleasure to local residents and visitors to the Old Stables, throughout the seasons. Do you worry about the climate, but feel there is not much you can do? This short, unassuming film is a gentle call for small actions. It follows Ellie, a teenager who turns her climate anxiety into a search for like-minded people,&nbsp;eventually finding her purpose in the community through connection, sharing, and creativity. Weave a willow basket with Suz of The Coppice Co. Make a small round egg basket from Somerset grown willow.&nbsp;You will learn all the fundamental weaving techniques you need to know to make a sturdy, beautiful and practical basket. No previous experience is needed.&nbsp;Just a willingness to learn and make mistakes!&nbsp;Some hand strength is required so be prepared to get a bit of a workout! All materials provided. Age Range: 12yrs + We can offer part-funded (cost: £30) and fully funded places thanks to support from Clarion Futures; if you would like to join this workshop and the cost is a barrier please contact wantagemix@gmail.com

Come and try Tai Chi outside in this tranquil and beautiful place where members of the community are able to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables in a sustainable and attractive way. The Market Garden is a fantastic place just to slow down and connect with nature. This is an open event for everyone, so please bring family/ friends.
