<h1>Managing Volunteers: Building Positive Volunteer Experiences (3 part series)</h1>Volunteers can play an incredibly valuable role within small community organisations — but managing volunteers well can be challenging, particularly when you don't have a dedicated volunteer manager or formal volunteering programme.Young K&amp;C's Managing Volunteers series in partnership with The Volunteer Centre has been designed with the realities of small youth and community organisations in mind.Across three sessions, we'll explore how organisations can create positive, meaningful and well-managed volunteering opportunities for both young people and adults.Outline of Sessions:<ol><li>From Participant to Volunteer</li><li>Young People's Volunteer Fair – October Half-Term (Further details coming soon)</li><li>Managing Volunteers – The Essentials (Further details coming soon)</li></ol>Session 1: From Participant to Volunteer – Supporting Young People to Take Their Next StepIt's common for young people to reach the end of a programme or age out of a service but still want to remain part of an organisation that has been important to them.Volunteering can be a fantastic next step — giving young people an opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills, gain experience and give something back to their community.But moving from participant to volunteer needs more than simply asking a young person to "stay and help out".This practical session will explore how organisations can make that transition meaningful and rewarding for both the young person and the organisation.Date: Thursday 24th SeptemberTime: 10am-12pmLocation: The Hive,&nbsp;2 Thorpe Close, W10 5TZWe'll look at:<ul><li>Moving from service user or participant to volunteer</li><li>Creating clear and meaningful volunteer roles for young people</li><li>Understanding the difference between participating, helping out and volunteering</li><li>Building a simple volunteer journey, from joining through to progression</li><li>Setting appropriate expectations, responsibilities and boundaries</li><li>Supporting, supervising and recognising young volunteers</li><li>Helping young people identify and articulate the skills they are developing</li><li>Using volunteering as a pathway into further opportunities, education or employment</li><li>Making volunteering valuable for the organisation as well as the young person</li></ul>The session will be practical and accessible, with ideas that can be adapted by organisations of different sizes — including those with small teams and no dedicated volunteer manager.The aim isn't to create lots of extra processes. It's to help you turn the volunteering that may already be happening informally into a more purposeful experience for everyone involved.

30 hours · 10 x 3hr sessions · Max 14 students · In partnership with the Open University About the course This interactive course, inspired by the Early Childhood Health Promotion Toolkit developed by Dr Jackie Musgrave (Open University) and Professor Jane Payler, explores how practitioners can support children’s health and wellbeing in meaningful and sustainable ways. Across 10 sessions, you’ll gain core knowledge of children’s health, work with parents and communities, and design your own health promotion intervention using structured models and practical activities. With guest speakers, group work, and reflective journaling, the course balances theory with hands-on practice. People who complete the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance for Early Childhood Health Promotion from the Open University Taught by: Dr Lala Manners and Claire Standring. Outcomes By the end of the course, you will:<ul><li>Understand the priorities of health promotion nationally and locally</li><li>Identify the main issues affecting children’s health</li><li>Develop and implement a tailored health intervention</li><li>Evaluate its impact and sustainability</li><li>Reflect on your professional practice</li></ul> Who can attend This course is open to anyone working with primary-aged children (particularly those aged 0-8). Including but not limited to working in a voluntary and community setting, statutory service, informal group or schools.

<h2>Level 3 Safeguarding Training + Train the Trainer</h2> Every organisation that works with children and young people needs to have someone who takes the lead on Safeguarding and Child Protection – sometimes referred to as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or a Nominated Safeguarding Officer.This comprehensive programme is designed for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), Deputy DSLs, CEOs, senior managers and those with responsibility for safeguarding within their organisation. Dates/time:<ul><li>Level 3 Safeguarding Training – Monday 28th September 2026, 9:30am-3pm</li><li>Train the Trainer – Monday 5th and 12th October 2026, 10am-1pm</li></ul> Location: Chelsea Youth Club, Blantyre St, London SW10 0EQ The programme begins with a full-day DSL Level 3 Safeguarding Training (9:30am–3:00pm), providing participants with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to effectively fulfil the responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Lead.It will cover the roles and responsibilities for Designated Safeguarding Leads – what you need to know and what you need to do. Following this, participants will attend two half-day Train the Trainer sessions, equipping them with the skills, resources and confidence to deliver high-quality safeguarding training within their own organisation for staff and volunteers. At Young K&amp;C, we know that accessing affordable, high-quality safeguarding training can be challenging for small charities and community organisations. This programme has been developed to help build long-term organisational resilience by enabling participants to deliver consistent safeguarding training internally, reducing reliance on external providers and supporting a strong culture of safeguarding across their organisation. About the Trainer:Rahana Hussain is an independent trainer with 22 years of training experience. She provides training in core safeguarding areas for professionals. Important Information:<ul><li>This training is for Young K&amp;C members only. If you are not sure of your membership status please email members@youngkandc.org.uk.
