Hackney CVS is a local infrastructure organisation (LIO), and we support voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations located in, or serving communities living, working, or studying within the London Borough of Hackney and the City of London (City & Hackney).

We have three core functions:

Giving a voice to the City and Hackney VCS and seldom-heard communities, empowering them to inform, shape, and influence decisions affecting residents.
Providing a bridge to connect VCS organisations and residents with each other, and with statutory partners.
Ensuring the VCS thrives, by building the capacity of the VCS through training, 1:1 support, and by leveraging resources, financial and otherwise, for the sector.

This forum brings together Hackney Marshes residents, community organisations and health service staff to focus on support to manage pain. Speakers will share information about local pain management services.local community organisations will be sharing information about the services they offer that could help you manage your pain. Hackney CVS would like to invite you to another Black History Season starting with an event on 22 October. As usual, we will have important debate, knowledge and power sharing for our communities and partners. This will be followed by African music, dancing and a hot Caribbean lunch. This is not to be missed!&nbsp;Festival of Flags&nbsp;Once again, we are asking all of you to contribute to our Black History exhibition. In response to the current campaign of division and hate using the Union Jack and St Georges Cross flags, we would like you to contribute as many flags from African and Caribbean countries as possible and we will create a wonderful display of unity and love. We will be accepting flag contributions as of today, 1st&nbsp;October. The exhibition will be installed by Thursday 16th&nbsp;October.&nbsp;Please put the name of your organisation on the flags so that they can be returned to you. The Hackney Downs Neighbourhood Forum gives those who live, work or have a keen interest in the local area a say on how to improve their health and wellbeing, and help remove barriers in regards to Long term health conditions and Primary Care and Community Health Services. This Forum will be a day filled with discussions, presentations and Q&amp;A for residents and local community members to join in and connect with local VCS stalls for information on Community Pain Management, healthy eating, health and wellbeing, as well as opportunities to connect with professionals and meet your neighbourbours. OverviewThis full-day training programme is designed to build confidence, enhance communication, and strengthen leadership within Hackney’s vibrant voluntary and community sector (VCS). Split into two distinct half-day sessions, the workshop will support two key stakeholder groups: frontline staff/volunteers and team leaders. Each session delivers practical skills and reflective insights, with a clear focus on empowering participants to thrive in their roles and contribute more effectively to their organisations and communities.​​​Session One: Speak UpBuilding Confidence and Communication Skills for VCS Staff and VolunteersTime:&nbsp;10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Session Aim:To equip participants with the confidence, clarity, and presence to express themselves effectively in meetings, public forums, and organisational settings. The session is tailored to help individuals who may feel anxious or unsure when speaking in group environments, offering practical tools to overcome self-doubt and build a stronger communication style. ​Learning Outcomes:Participants will: <ul><li>Develop techniques to manage nerves and communicate with self-assurance</li><li>Practise clear, concise, and assertive verbal communication</li><li>Learn to listen actively and contribute with confidence</li><li>Understand the role of body language, eye contact, and tone</li><li>Build a personal toolkit to apply in public meetings and collaborative settings</li></ul> Delivery Approach:Highly interactive and supportive, this session will combine individual and group exercises, role play, real-time feedback, and structured reflection. The session focuses on maintaining a positive, safe, and respectful environment through assertive communication and de-escalation strategies. ​Learning Outcomes:​Participants will:<ul><li>Identify the root causes and early signs of challenging behaviour.</li><li>Develop strategies for de-escalating tension and setting clear, respectful boundaries.</li><li>Recognise when discussions are becoming inappropriate or off-topic.</li><li>Practice techniques to confidently redirect or conclude inappropriate conversations.</li><li>Build a practical understanding of appropriateness and its impact on community cohesion.</li><li>Apply a structured framework for handling difficult interactions with empathy and firmness.</li></ul> Delivery Approach:​A highly interactive and practical session combining real-world scenario analysis, role-playing exercises, and guided group discussions. The session includes a framework activity - The "Calm, Clear, Close" Model for Difficult Talks - providing participants with structured steps and actionable strategies for immediate application.​​This workshop can be tailored to the specific needs and scenarios professionals encounter most frequently. Participants are welcome to register for either the morning or afternoon session, or attend both sessions as a full-day course.
