Camden Council - Cycle Training

At Camden, we are dedicated to promoting cycling as a safe and enjoyable mode of transportation for everyone in our community. We offer a range of free cycle training programs tailored for individuals of all ages and abilities, from beginners learning to ride to advanced cyclists looking to navigate busy urban roads. Our training sessions, which adhere to the government Bikeability syllabus, are conducted by qualified instructors and are designed to build confidence and essential cycling skills. We also provide training bikes for those who may not have their own, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate.

Our services extend to children through school programs, where we teach vital bike control skills and safe cycling practices. By engaging with local schools, we aim to instill a love for cycling in the younger generation, promoting a healthier lifestyle and reducing reliance on motor vehicles. The impact of our initiatives is evident in the growing number of individuals who feel empowered to cycle safely in Camden, fostering a more active and environmentally friendly community.

We offer five levels of FREE cycle training to suit you:&nbsp; <h3>Level 1: Learn to Cycle</h3>Never got around to learning to cycle? Do you want practice with starting, stopping and balancing on a bike? We'll teach you the first principles.&nbsp; <h3>Level 2: Building Cycle Confidence</h3>Keen to boost your cycling skills before being on the road with other traffic? We teach important bike control skills to prepare you for cycling safely on the road.&nbsp; <h3>Level 3: Cycling Skills on the Road</h3>Ready to start riding on quiet roads?&nbsp;We'll teach you in small groups or 1-2-1, with each session are tailored to suit you. Training takes place on quiet roads and includes learning the safe habits of experienced cyclists and increased hazard awareness.&nbsp; <h3>Level 4: Advanced Cycle Skills on Road</h3>Want help dealing with busy roads and more complicated junctions? Learn how to ride safely in complex situations that are on your journey to work or daily routes.&nbsp; <h3>Level 5: Enjoy local rides</h3>Want to explore new areas around you and make friends? Join free local rides to get to know new routes and places to go on bike&nbsp;We also recommend you watch&nbsp;<a href="https://cycle-skillsonline.tfl.gov.uk/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 62, 144);">Transport for London's online Cycle Skills course</a> before attending our sessions.

Away from traffic, children can practice essential skills such as signalling, observation, and stopping quickly. This course is aimed at young people and children aged 8 or above who can ride unassisted and want to improve their safe cycling skills. This is a two day course, 17 and 18 February. Please ensure your child is able to attend both days.

If you are unable to attend your booking please cancel using the same form you booked the training. There is a long waiting list and by not attending you are denying another child a place.

This course is for children who are learning to balance on a bike, how to start pedalling and how to stop. We prioritise children aged 8 (school year 3) and above. The training is over two days, the 17th and 18th Feb, 11:30 - 12:30. We encourage children to take part in both days.
