Children and young people across South Tyneside can access free, nutritious food and enriching activities over the school holidays, as the Department for Education (DFE) has confirmed funding for the holiday activities and food programme (HAF). These free holiday clubs will support families who are eligible for benefit related free school meals. Activities include: Musical Theatre, Football, Multi-Sport, Dance and Surfing. Our 'Teen Ticket’ allows teenagers access to many attractions across South Tyneside, without a parent needing to be present. The next programme of holiday clubs is during the school summer holidays (Friday 17th July Sunday 30th August 2026). Bookings for summer activities will be available from Monday 29th June at 3:30pm. Keep checking back as more sessions will be added regularly! Instilling a lifelong love of movement.
It could be a bright summers day or a frosty clear morning it really doesn’t matter the whole family is up early having breakfast and excited by the day ahead.  Once again 3 generations of the family are together to play.  Just as the plates are cleared away the door bell rings and nan and grandad are here to get ready to play too.  The car is packed up and we are off.  It could be the woods it could be the beach again it matters not, what matters is that the whole family has fallen in love with activity and they share that love together.  

This has occurred through wholesale change of the delivery and acceptance of what good quality movement provision is.  For some it is competitive sport and for some it is play.  For some it is competing and becoming the best you can be, for others it is a kick about with your mates.

What is for sure is that your economic background, physical abilities or which school you attend decides this.  It should be equal opportunities for all.

After all the World Health Organisation have called the current obesity statistics a ticking time bomb.  Put simply it is far too risky not to act to get everyone falling in love with movement.

We at Active Future have decided to use all means necessary to combat this social issue and will do whatever it takes to reach our long term goal of improving the lives of 1 million people per week.

Jarrow Archaeological Mission

At Jarrow Hall, we are proud to lead the Jarrow Archaeological Mission (JAM), a significant initiative supported by a £249,188 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Our mission aims to reopen archaeological investigations at the historic Jarrow monastic site, a project that has not been undertaken since the 1960s. In September 2025, we commenced our second round of excavations, engaging local community groups, residents, students, and volunteers in uncovering the rich layers of Jarrow’s history. This collaborative effort not only fosters a sense of community involvement but also honors the legacy of the late Dame Rosemary Cramp, whose work laid the foundation for our museum.

Through our events and educational programs, we strive to make history accessible and engaging for everyone. Our activities not only provide hands-on learning experiences but also contribute to the preservation and understanding of our local heritage. By involving diverse groups in our archaeological digs, we empower individuals to connect with their history and heritage, fostering a deeper appreciation for the past. As we analyze and process the findings from our excavations, we are excited to share our discoveries and insights, ensuring that the impact of our work resonates within the community and beyond.

For the last 4 years we have been running Young Archaeologist Club at Jarrow Hall, making Archaeology accessible to young people.

ABLE TO DANCE COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

We believe that no disability or special need should stop you from being able to dance. Dance is more than just movement to music, when teaching dance to adults and children it enhances and improves their co-ordination. 

Through their arm and leg movements, marching, and tapping their hands, they are doing more than simply having fun. In fact, using movement as an important learning tool. 

What we hope to achieve in our lessons, besides having fun and building a small community, is for our students to engage and explore movement and musicality, and to grow personally and socially in a safe environment. 

Our teachers will choreograph routines in line with the student’s capability and ability. Our classes are designed to be fun and enjoyable. 

Please note that the child must be accompanied by parent/carer for the session.
