Description

Category 1 Walk – Easy. A selection of trail and sand that involves some ascent and descent. Total distance is 16.4km (10.2miles). Total elevation gain is 197m.

Set off is 10am.

Overview:

Starting and finishing at Warkworth Beach Car Park, this trail takes us to visit Warkworth Castle and the sand dunes on the coast within the Northumberland Coast National Landscape.

This route involves a long section of walking on the beach, and there will be opportunity whilst on the beach to take a sea dip.

The route will take us from the car park into Warkworth, an ancient village located within the river bend of the River Coquet. In the village is a 12th Century church and Warkworth Castle.

We will continue along the riverside path before heading across the fields, passing Warkworth Golf Club to reach the coastal dunes and follow the path northward until we reach the River Aln Estuary. At the water's edge, we will be able to see Alnmouth.

From here, we will continue along the beach along Alnmouth Bay, taking time to stop for lunch and an optional sea dip. We will then head south along the coast all the way to the estuary of the River Coquet, across which is the town of Amble. From here, we return to the car park.

At the end, there are plenty of coffee shops in Warkworth to grab coffee and cake before heading home.

Note: The route may be reversed depending on tide times.

Cost of Event:

The wellbeing walk is offered as a free event, as the ability to pay should not be a barrier to access nature in support of your health and wellbeing.

However, if you feel you are able to make a contribution to cover the costs of these walks, we would be very grateful for the offer of a donation - either in cash on the day or via bank transfer.

This will help not only cover the costs for the day but also scale up the number of walks we are able to offer.

For those able to pay, a donation of between £5-£10 per person would be great.

This can be paid in cash on the day, or via online transfer. Bank details for online transfer are:
