Introduction to Canva: designing health communications
This is a beginners’ course for people working or volunteering in community organisations in Tower Hamlets. You’ll use the free version of Canva to create communications for the council’s Vital 5 / Healthy Tower Hamlets campaign. The Vital 5 covers smoking, alcohol, mental wellbeing, checking your blood pressure, moving more and eating well. Each design will also promote your own organisation, using your logo and identity. Accessible design is explained at the start and used at every step. We have some computers available at the venue, but you’re also welcome to bring your own.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to find your way around Canva and choose the right size and template. You’ll download Healthy Tower Hamlets pictures and upload them to Canva. You’ll plan a message for one audience and one channel, such as WhatsApp, social media, an e-bulletin or a poster. You’ll use simple design rules to make your visuals accessible, and write alt text for pictures. Finally, you’ll check, download and share your finished design.

Create a free Canva account at canva.com and check you can log in.
