Volunteer coordinators' network: supporting volunteers affected by dementia
Volunteers play a vital role in supporting people to stay connected, active and involved in their communities. As dementia affects more individuals and families across North Yorkshire, volunteer coordinators are increasingly likely to encounter volunteers who are living with dementia or supporting someone who is.
This Volunteer Coordinators' Network meeting will explore how organisations can better understand and support people affected by dementia, helping volunteers to continue contributing in ways that are positive, safe and rewarding.
We're pleased to welcome colleagues from Dementia Forward, who will share their expertise and practical guidance on recognising dementia, understanding how it may affect individuals over time, and the support available locally.
During the session, we'll explore:
The work of Dementia Forward and how to access support and referral pathways
Common types of dementia and recognising potential early signs
Practical tips for supporting people as dementia progresses
The benefits of volunteering for people living with dementia
The session will be led by Fiona Andrews, Community Education Co-ordinator at Dementia Forward, and Debby Lennox, Head of Community Operations.
As always, there will also be time to connect with fellow volunteer co-ordinators, share experiences and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing volunteer-involving organisations across the region.
