 James Ross Hunter Youth Support Community Interest Company has been established since 2014 in the borough of Lewisham. We are looking for volunteers and mentors who have experience and or the desire of working with young people and parents affected by Knife Crimes. To be a success in this role you will be able to demonstrate your experience of empowering young people, helping them to become vigilant in the face of adversity. You will be a confident front-line worker that can effectively communicate with young people.  

You will have a vital role to play in helping us to achieve our mission of offering visual knowledge on the effects of knife crime in our community. The ultimate aim is to effect attitude change among young people in the number of young people carrying knives or other weapons reducing subsequent knife crimes. We concentrate on young people's mental health and wellbeing. We are innovative and deeply passionate about what we do, working in the very heart of local communities.  

*We work in junior schools as well as working with 16–25-year-olds. * Travel expenses will be paid.  

• Volunteers and mentors are supported and trained on early help and prevention skills. 

• Volunteers are expected to support events and workshops.  

• We would like volunteers to use their initiative in creating, coordinating, and monitoring progression of workshops.  

• Volunteer Administrator role to include maintaining data.  

• Volunteer Fundraiser role to support raising funds.  

• Volunteer Counsellors in partnership with SMAKE counselling services.  


MENTORS - As a mentor your role will include acting as an Advisor and coach providing guidance motivation, emotional support, and feedback, to be a sounding board for ideas and action plans. To be a role model helping your mentees consider and weigh potential consequences of decisions and actions to avoid pitfalls and predictable outcomes that may occur. Mentors help in developing contacts and further resources.  

• Volunteer Coordinator for parent mentorship  

Induction- All volunteers and mentors are expected to attend four workshops that will include training sessions on: - 

• Listening Skills, Working with Young People, Safeguarding and Mentorship.  

DBS- And enhanced DBS disclosure is a requirement for this post. Our recruitment checks, Induction and on-going support and supervision reflect our commitment to safeguarding our clients.
