Finding the Sounds of the City: A walking tour exploring the music venues of St Clements and Cowley Road - The Past, Present and Lost. From The Oranges & Lemons to The Regal via The Point and Section 6 Cinema.

Do you have memories of going out in East Oxford, past or present? Whether it was moshing at the Oranges and Lemons, grooving at Bogarts or raving at Prism, come along and learn more about the places that made the Cowley Road rock. 

Meeting point: The Oranges & Lemons, 30 St Clements Street, Oxford, OX4 1AB (Google Maps - Oranges and Lemons)

Tour finishes at: The Regal (Christian Life Centre), 300 Cowley Road, Oxford, OX4 AF (Google Maps - Christian Life Centre)

Time: 11am-12.30pm (approximately 1.5 hours) 

Please arrive at the meeting point at least 5 minutes before the start of the tour to ensure a prompt start. 

Route and accessibility: Approximately 1.5 miles of easy walking along paved routes. No steps on main route, but access to venues, where provided, may involve stairs.

Meet your tour guide: 

Maurice East is a local historian who was born and raised in Oxford. He interprets the social history of the city through the lens of growing up as a ‘townie’ and shines a spotlight on stories far off the usual tourist trail. His main area of research is the history of car making at Cowley and how the arrival of industry, cars and blue collar workers changed Oxford forever in the early twentieth century.
