Category 1 Walk – Easy. A selection of trail and path that involves some ascent and descent. Total distance is 14.1km (8.48miles). Total elevation gain is 317m.

Set off is 10am.

Overview:

Starting from Derwentcote car park, this is a pleasant countryside trail through the Derwent Valley, following a disused railway line before exploring Chopwell Wood.

The walk starts by joining the railway path, which leads you across Pontburn viaduct within the woodland, which is a Grade II listed structure.

The walk carries through the fields, between trees and across the River Derwent to Rowlands Gill. The walk continues through the village before entering Chopwell Wood.

At Chopwell Wood, we will stop for lunch.

From Chopwell Wood, the route continues to Blackhall Mill where we will stop for a coffee before making our way along the River Derwent, through the field and woods and back to the car park.

Cost of Event:

The wellbeing walk is offered as a free event, as the ability to pay should not be a barrier to access nature in support of your health and wellbeing.

However, if you feel you are able to make a contribution to cover the costs of these walks, we would be very grateful for the offer of a donation - either in cash on the day or via bank transfer.

This will help not only cover the costs for the day but also scale up the number of walks we are able to offer.

For those able to pay, a donation of between £5-£10 per person would be great.

This can be paid in cash on the day, or via online transfer. Bank details for online transfer are:
