Information & Awareness Session for voluntary and community organisations that hire out community halls & spaces

Community venues play a vital role in bringing people together. This informal session is designed to help organisations understand how to keep community halls & spaces safe, welcoming, and well-managed when hiring them out to the public.

This session is suitable for village halls, community centres, scout huts, faith and voluntary sector organisations, and anyone involved in venue management or room bookings.

What will the session cover?


  • What is the Prevent Duty (2023)?

An overview of the Prevent Duty and how it applies to voluntary and community organisations.

 

  • What are permissive environments?

An introduction to what is meant by “permissive environments” and how certain spaces can unintentionally be used in ways they were not intended.

 

  • Why are permissive environments an issue?

We’ll explore why awareness matters, how risks can arise, and the importance of having simple safeguards in place — without creating unnecessary barriers for communities.

 

  • Advice, guidance and top tips for community venue hire

Practical tips to help you feel confident when hiring out your space, including:

  • Good booking practices
  • Clear terms and conditions
  • Knowing your hirers
  • Managing concerns appropriately


  • Further training and guidance

Information on additional support, training opportunities, and where to go for advice if you need it in the future.
