Description

Date: Sunday 30th June

Time: 10:00am – 3pm

Venue: Ravensbourne River, Beckenham Place Park, Downham Gate, The Common, Old Bromley Road, BR1 4JZ

Description:

Join us for a wade upstream in Beckenham Place Park's Ravensbourne River. Learn about the exciting improvement works in this side of the park by the river and future volunteering opportunities to improve the river itself. We'll split the session with a litter pick wade and time on the riverbanks carrying out some conservation tasks.

Meeting point:

What 3 Words location: ///stars.shovels.dots

East side of the park by the Ravensbourne River in The Common (large field with compound fencing surrounding the improvement works).

The nearest access into the park is at the Downham Gate on Old Bromley Road.

Our van will be parked across the river from the previously known Cherry Blossom Pre-School, next to where the new playpark is being built, close to the skate park and BMX track. The old bridge is being replaced so you'll need to use the pedestrian bridge next to the new playpark if you come in the Downham Gate.

If you are walking from the Beckenham Hill Road entrance or North Gate/railway bridge entrance you do not need to cross the river to get to the meeting point.

When the river is on you left and the compound fencing in the large field is on your right with the outdoor gym, keep walking until you see our van.

If you are arriving from Ravensbourne Avenue entrance:

  • Walk through the Summerhouse playing fields, then into The Common past the new pond on your left and we'll be further on by the river on your right.

Address: Beckenham Place Park, Downham Gate, The Common, Old Bromley Road, BR1 4JZ

Facilities: We'll use the toilets and kitchen facilities in Cherry Blossom Pre-School which is currently the site office for the park's improvement works.

What to bring:

Please bring your packed lunch and remember your water bottle to stay hydrated.

Please dress appropriately for weather on the day with warm layers including waterproof top plus leggings/trousers to wear under waders and warm socks. It can feel cold in the deep parts of the river where shaded.

We’ll provide waders, gloves, litter pickers, bags and walking poles plus any tools for the activities.

We'll break for lunch around 12.30pm and we'll provide free tea, coffee (cows/oat milk) and biscuits after the session in the site office.

When booking your place you'll be asked to confirm your shoe size so we can provide you with the correct size waders.

All children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. For this event, children under 14 years old will have limited access to certain parts of the river due to depth of the water.

Catriona and Vic from Thames21 look forward to welcoming you all.
