Description

Creating inclusive and equitable spaces for children and young people is an important part of good practice across the youth and voluntary sector.

This session will provide an opportunity for organisations to reflect on racial and ethnic equity in practice and consider how this shows up in the way we work with children, young people and communities.

Across the youth and voluntary sector, many organisations are committed to creating inclusive environments where all young people feel safe, respected and able to participate fully. This session offers a space to explore what racial and ethnic equity can look like in everyday practice, reflect on our approaches, and consider practical steps organisations can take to strengthen their work.

What to expect:

  • Historic Context - the history of migrant and racialised communities in the U.K, exploring both their rich contributions and the discrimination faced
  • Bias Awareness - reflect on unconscious biases understanding how this impacts youth work practice
  • Equity in Practice - practicing the behaviour and communication tools needed to create emotionally safe, equitable spaces.
