Finding the Sounds of the City: A walking tour exploring the music venues of Oxford - The Past, Present and Lost. From the Town Hall to The Nest via Scamps and the Orchid Rooms.  

Do you have memories of going out in Oxford, past or present? Whether it was jiving at the Carfax Assembly Rooms, grooving at Boodles or at the front of the crowd at the Jericho Tavern, come along and learn more about the places that made Oxford rock. 

Meeting point: Museum of Oxford, Oxford Town Hall, Oxford, OX1 1BX 

Tour finishes at: Jericho Tavern, 56 Walton Street, Oxford, OX2 6AE (Google Maps)

Time: 11am-1pm (approximately 2 hours) 

Please arrive at the meeting point at least 5 minutes before the start of the tour to ensure a prompt start. 

Tickets cost £15.

Route and accessibility: Approximately 1.5 miles of easy walking along paved routes. No steps on main route, but access to venues, where provided, may involve stairs.

Meet your tour guide: 

Maurice East is a local historian who was born and raised in Oxford. He interprets the social history of the city through the lens of growing up as a ‘townie’ and shines a spotlight on stories far off the usual tourist trail. His main area of research is the history of car making at Cowley and how the arrival of industry, cars and blue collar workers changed Oxford forever in the early twentieth century.
