Hedgerows are vital features in our landscape, providing an essential wildlife refuge, cleaning the air, capturing carbon and reducing flooding. Enfield Council invite you to come and join in with this hedgerow planting project at the Eastern gateway, Enfield Chase.
We aim to plant a new hedgerow to create new ecological links with woodland in the surrounding landscape. If you missed previous events and would like to know more we would recommend speaking to a member of the local volunteer group, ‘Friends Of Enfield Chase’ – on Facebook.
The task will be to plant a mixture of native saplings using canes and spiral guards. No experience is necessary but planting requires a good level physical fitness, walking in mud and bending to perform gardening-type tasks. Gloves and spades provided!
These events are open to the public, so come along and help London breathe for the future, take an active part in the restoration of our landscape, meet like minded people, experience the beautiful outdoors, see some rarer wildlife and speak with knowledgeable staff who can provide insight into the project and how you can get involved.
We will provide teas, coffees and biscuits to all our volunteers. Please bring water and something to eat for lunch (botany bay farm shop is a great option for lunch). There is no toilet available on site. Please also dress suitably for the weather and bring sturdy boots/wellingtons!
An induction briefing and a health and safety talk will be given at the start of every event. Parking is available for signed up volunteers at the farm for the duration of the event. A staff member or a member of Enfield Council staff will direct you at the farm.
