Sustainability Apprentice Job 

This role is part of the Green Careers Pathway project, funded through the Dormant Assets Fund Sustainable Steps Wales, made possible thanks to the support of The National Lottery Community Fund.

The project provides additional support for young people entering green careers, particularly those from currently under-represented groups in the workforce, including disabled and neurodiverse young people; young people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities; and young women who also identify with one of these groups.

This role is open to all applicants, and applications are welcomed from anyone who meets the job description requirements.

Are you passionate about sustainability and ready to work in an organisation that’s making a big impact in communities throughout Wales and innovating in the sustainability space?

Whilst you study a fully sponsored 18 month Level 3 Diploma in Energy & Carbon Management Apprenticeship, you’ll be working directly within our Sustainability team to apply your learning in real time.

For us, sustainability means doing the right things for the climate, the environment and society in a way that improves today while protecting or enhancing the future. We’re looking for a Sustainability Apprentice to support us in delivering our new sustainability strategy and six strategic sustainability ambitions.

Where Does This Role Fit In?

As Sustainability Apprentice, you’ll be part of our Sustainability team. Alongside the team, you’ll be working closely with colleagues from across the business, supporting them in relation to their sustainability and utilities journey.


What skills and experience do you need?

•Analytical mindset – Enjoys working with numbers and interpreting data

•Confidence to challenge – Comfortable questioning data and checking accuracy

•Attention to detail – Able to work methodically with multiple data sources

•Enthusiastic, can-do mindset – Enjoys tackling challenges and finding practical solutions

•Eager to learn and be part of a team – Keen to develop skills and support others


What are the pay and benefits?

Time off and Flexibility

•Hybrid role based in Newport, or Swansea. Your role will involve working throughout South Wales.

•Working days are predominately Monday to Friday, option to work compressed 9 day fortnight.

•26 days holiday, plus Bank holidays. Rising to 31 days with an extra day for each full year of service.

•Maternity & Adoption Leave: 20 weeks.

•Paternity Leave: 3 weeks.

•The exact salary for this role is £23,490.04 for a 37 hour, 18 month fixed term position.

•Pension Choices: Defined Contribution (DC) Scheme with matched contributions up to 10%. Or, Defined Benefit (DB) 1/80th of final salary for every year of service.

What to expect: A numeracy and logical assessment prior to interview followed by a data task and panel interview on the day which will be an opportunity to find out a bit more about you as a person and your interests and passions related to sustainability.
