Shaped by Nature

The Museum of Oxford is taking part in the Council of British Archaeology’s Festival of Archaeology! Join us for this year's theme of Nature and Archaeology and object handling, creative crafts and gallery trails.

Uncover archaeology through the museum's collections and learn how nature has shaped the people of the past. Delve into how nature has affected every aspect of life from jewellery design, ritual practices, coinage to tool creation.

Discover Oxford's hidden stories through handling ancient artefacts from the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Take part in crafting your own Roman inspired broach and pre-historic headdress. Then, investigate the galleries with a new trail to highlight some of the museum's most unique ancient items.

The session runs from 11.00-13.00. Drop in between these times, but make sure you leave enough time to complete the activities.

This workshop is suitable for ages 5-11. Children must be supervised at all times.

Tickets cost £1.50 per child and can be purchased online via our website or at the Museum Shop. Each child ticket includes free entry for one accompanying adult. This event ticket includes access to the Galleries for one child and one adult.

We recommend booking in advance to secure your place. Sales from tickets help support our work to deliver fun and accessible family activities, community engagement projects, schools’ workshops, exhibitions and special events for Oxford’s people in our Museum spaces.

Event tickets are non-refundable if you choose to cancel your booking. 

A refund will only be issued if the event is cancelled or if there is a significant change to the advertised programme.

Access

There is step-free, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax Tower (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift to the Galleries and then a lift to the basement.

Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor, before entering the Museum.
