Description

Help protect the River Thames by measuring the impact of wet wipes deposited on its shores!

IMPORTANT EVENT UPDATE:

Following an extensive site visit today, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Big Wet Wipe Count on Sunday 20th October.

However, we would like to invite volunteers to a Big River Clean up to make use of the amassed energy and enthusiasm. We are sorry for any disappointment that not carrying out the survey will understandably cause.

We will NOT carry out the Big Wet Wipe Count as previously planned. The low tide is too high, and the tide is turning too quickly for the survey to be safe to complete.

We will carry out a clean-up (most likely on the North Side of the river) for 2 hours from 11am – 1pm. There are much fewer wet wipes on the North Side of the river, but it is safer to access as the tide stays lower for longer on that side. There is a lot of floating litter amassed in the strand line on the North Side of the River that we will be looking to clean up.

We are hoping that with so many people booked in to clean up the river that we will be able to clear many bags of litter from the foreshore, and that it will still be a fun and engaging event for everyone attending.

Children under 16 need to be supervised by an adult. This event is not suitable for children under 10 years old.

This is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporatevolunteer
