We'll take a quiet path out of town to reach the South Marine Park. After meandering through the trees, we'll cross over to the north side, where we'll walk up to the Lawe Top to take in the fantastic views across the harbour. Our return to The Word will be via the peaceful riverside walk.

• Terrain: Good footpaths (concrete or tarmac) throughout the walk. There are some moderately steep paths within the Marine Parks.

• Steps: There is a large set of steps leading down to the riverside walk but these can be avoided with a short detour.

• Wheelchair accessible: No

• Toilets: There are toilets at The Word and in the South Marine Park.

South Shields Interchange (bus and metro) is only a 7-minute walk from The Word. The ferry landing is only 3 minutes away.
