We would like to invite you to attend our Understanding EHCP workshop, where you will be working along side a small group of parents to apply for an EHCP for your child.
As you may be aware, there is a 2 part legal test that needs to be satisfied in order for an EHC Needs assessment to take place:
If the answer to both of these questions is yes, the LA must carry out an EHC needs assessment.
This test is set out in the law (section 36(8) of the Children and Families Act 2014
If you would like to attend, please book a place as soon as possible, as we are limiting the number of attendees to 6. If you have any questions about whether this workshop is suitable for you please email Karen@myotas.org
.
It will be helpful to bring along any of the following:
Any reports/documents to support your application, such as; diagnosis letters, assessment reports, School reports, One Planning documents, DLA applications, any reports from other professionals, copies of any communication to show your child has or may have Special Educational Needs, evidence of part time timetables or different interventions that may be in place, attendance records.
This list may seem overwhelming, but any information helps! Remember, you don’t have to have ‘professional evidence/diagnosis’ to be able to apply.
It may also be useful to make notes under each of these sections ahead of the session:
Cognition and Learning
Social Emotional and Mental Health
Communication and Interaction
Sensory and Physical
Are there any needs you feel haven’t been identified yet?
How does your child currently manage in their setting?
We look forward to seeing you there!
Everyone is welcome, from anywhere in Essex, whether your child is at school or home ed. No diagnosis is required. Free parking.
