We will be installing floating reed beds around the Oxbow Island on the River Lea.
The Oxbow Island is a small area of land separate from the main banks of the river Lea, and has been recently restored to improve habitats for wildlife. This task will improve the habitat quality and stabilise banks on an Oxbow by installing floating ecosystems and coir rolls/stakes. We will be implanting the coir rolls with reed plant plugs, and then installing the beds across the inlet and outlet channels of the oxbow channel.
Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. We provide all the tools. Equipment and training so you can turn up and get involved. Please book your place in advance so that we can keep tabs on numbers of volunteers attending.
We'll be meeting at the Waterworks Center, and at 10am we walk over to the Oxbow Island (a short walk, the island is just behind the Ice Arena which is undergoing rebuilding work).
Please bring lunch and plenty of water. Please also dress suitably for the weather and the work. We look forward to meeting you.
Please email nik.cain@thames21.org.uk for any queries. When booking your place you should get a confirmation email - please check your spam folders if you don't receive one!
