Description

The Biome is centred on Biophilic Living and it’s about enabling humans to reconnect with nature and responding to the climate emergency with innovative technology in the heart of the city of Swansea.

The building is a mixed-use development, providing 50 flats which are social rent and will be managed by Pobl. It also includes commercial office space , retail, community spaces, and an education zone that will be managed by Hacer the developers. The Biome is a retrofit of the old Woolworths building.

Green features: The building will have an urban farm that residents will be able to use to come together, grow plants and use it as a space to socialise to improve wellbeing and reduce isolation, and a five-storey glass house with a winter garden.

Every flat will come with a balcony planter to add to the green ethos of the building. NWR are going to support residents to grow their balconies and help them to build skills and are also few flats with their own private gardens.

Other features in the building are

Rain water harvesting, solar panels, air – source heat pumps with an ambient loop, heating and thermal storage which are sustainable storage systems that lower energy usage
