Thames21 are delighted to welcome Lawrence Beal Collins from Ravensbourne Riverfly to the festival, will be joining us to demonstrate exactly what they do, describe the science that provides the data and then it’s over to you to have a go yourselves.
The Ravensbourne in Beckenham Place Park is one of their original sampling sites and has been surveyed monthly since 2016. This scheme is part of the national Riverfly Monitoring Initiative (RMI). RMI records the biological data through freshwater invertebrate sampling, essentially, the insects that live in the river. Some are more tolerant of pollution, so they see what’s there to give a clear picture of how clean the river is. This will take place in a shallow part of the river.
Please bring wellies to enter the river.
This free activity is part of the River Ravensbourne Festival in BPP East.
