London Rivers Week 2026: Understanding Urban Rivers training and river wade

Would you like to be able to identify the signs of a healthy river?


Join us as we journey through the evolution of a river, covering key concepts that explore the physical characteristics and functioning of river systems.


You will gain understanding in the importance of protecting the ecology and natural processes of a river systems. You will also develop practical skills identifying the signs of a healthy river during a practical river wade along the River Ravensbourne.


Date: Friday 29th May 2026

Venue: The Brookmill, 65 Cranbrook Rd, London SE8 4EJ

Timings:

  • 10:00– 12:30 (classroom session at The Brookmill)
  • 13:30 - 16:00 (outdoor session + river wade along the Ravensbourne River)


What to bring:

  • Lunch: Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinking water.

 

  • Clothing: Please wear long trousers and wear or bring a long-sleeved top/fleece/jumper to protect yourself from nettles or giant hogweed.


  • Footwear: Please wear sensible footwear with good grips for the walk to the site for the outdoor session.

 

Waders: Please fill in the waders section in the sign-up form, so I know your shoe size and can make sure I bring enough waders to fit everyone.
