Job Description
Job Title: Green Careers Pathway Traineeship
Swansea Community Farm is looking for a Green Careers Pathway Trainee aged 16-30 to work with Farm staff on our volunteering projects.
This role is funded through the Green Careers Pathway programme, which supports young people to access employment in the green sector. The Green Careers Pathway programme, which is open to people aged 16-30 who identify as having a disability or long-term health condition, those from globally diverse backgrounds, neurodivergent individuals and women, as these groups are currently underrepresented in the sector.
We are passionate about creating a diverse workforce, and positively encourage applications from members of communities who are currently under-represented in the green careers field, notably candidates with mental/physical health conditions or disabilities, neurodivergent candidates, women, and people from minoritised ethnic groups. All appointments will be made on merit and in line with equal opportunities and relevant employment legislation.
The goal of the Farm is to transform lives through connection with people, animals and nature. We are a mental health and wellbeing charity supporting marginalised people facing health inequalities, poverty and disabilities to lead happier, more meaningful lives by better connecting with their local community and the natural world.
Our volunteering programmes promote participants’ health, wellbeing and confidence through hands-on Farm activities, including animal care, food growing, cooking, conservation and working on the grounds. Farm volunteers form a strong community which helps to reduce social isolation. Their work allows the Farm to open to local visitors for free, offering an urban green space with opportunities for play, learning, relaxation and connection.
Over-16s attend two days a week and work in all areas of the Farm, gaining experience and qualifications, and progressing to peer mentor positions. On Saturdays, our Child & Youth volunteers look after the Farm, learning practical skills and developing skills for managing their wellbeing. Farm volunteering makes a real difference to people’s lives, and your work will contribute to that.
This role involves: Learning about the work of the Farm and supporting the delivery of our volunteer and community programmes, delivering green skills-based volunteering opportunities to volunteers aged 10-110. This is a traineeship role designed to develop your skills in practical, Farm-based tasks and in offering practical and wellbeing support to our team of dedicated volunteers, many of whom attend the Farm to help improve their mental health. The role will involve working with volunteers in all areas of the Farm, and learning about and supporting the staff team in the running of the project. There will also
be opportunities to work on other Farm projects, including school and community visits and playschemes.
An ideal candidate will have a passion for learning about improving people’s wellbeing through outdoor work (in all weathers!). They will be keen to learn and able to fit into a small, dynamic team, interested in taking on responsibility and learning new things, including undergoing any necessary training.
Pay Scale: £25, 878 full time equivalent
Hours: 22.5-30 hours (3-4 days) per week for one year
Annual Leave: 28 days p.a. plus statutory bank holidays, pro rata
