Free Mental Health Courses for Sevenoaks Communities

Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with Mid-Kent MIND and KCC will be delivering free training to promote an awareness of good mental health and suicide prevention. Aimed at all partners, community and voluntary sector, practitioners, community champions, safeguarding leads, health care workers, and volunteers in the community across the Sevenoaks District. These courses will give you the skills and knowledge you need to start a conversation with someone who you believe is at risk or might be struggling with their mental health. These courses are free for anyone who lives or works in Kent and Medway thanks to funding from Kent County Council and Medway Council .

What will the course cover?

During the session, you will learn more about the mental health drivers that can cause suicidal thoughts and how to recognise the signs that someone may be feeling suicidal early on. We will explore which groups are statistically at greater risk of taking their own life and the relationship between self-harm and suicide. Through group activities and discussions, you will also learn how to identify the warning signs that someone might be struggling and what might cause them to experience thoughts of taking their own life. We will cover the different levels of suicidal ideation and the tools that can be used to help assess the level of risk and what support is needed. This will include how to create a safety plan and where to get additional support locally and nationally.
