Online SEND Transition Workshop for Parents and Carers
Tuesday 30th June, 7.30pm - 9pm
Supporting Neurodivergent Children and Young People Through Change
Starting a new class, moving to a different year group, changing schools or beginning a new educational setting can be exciting, but it can also bring uncertainty, anxiety and additional challenges for neurodivergent children and young people.
This practical and supportive online workshop is designed to help families feel informed, prepared and confident in supporting their child's transition this September.
The workshop will explore:
• Understanding why transitions can be more challenging for children and young people with SEND and neurodivergence
• What schools should be doing to support successful transitions
• The support available through Ordinarily Available provision, One Planning, EHCPs and reasonable adjustments
• Key people within school who can help, including SENCOs, pastoral teams and school nurses
• Practical strategies to prepare your child for change, including visual supports, social stories, extra visits, buddy systems and routines
• Helping children communicate worries and build confidence for their next step
• Working positively with schools to ensure support is in place from the start
• What to do if your child begins to struggle following their transition
• Sources of support and information available to families
Suitable for families of children and young people who are:
✓ Moving into a new class or teacher group
✓ Starting a new year group
✓ Transitioning from nursery to Reception
