Part of the South Tyneside's Community Page programme
Category 1 Walk – Easy. A selection of trail and path that involve little or no uphill and downhill.
Starting and finishing at Cocken Road Car Park, the outward part of the trail is one of the English sections of the Camino de Santiago.
Starting at Finchale Priory ruins on the banks of the River Wear, we will head in a southerly direction across farmlands and along the riverbank to Durham, passing the Castle and the site of St. Cuthberts’s Well, before taking a slight ascent to Durham Cathedral.
Once we have had a look around the grounds of the Cathedral, we will head down to the City Centre to find a shop for coffee and cake.
We will then head back along the bank of the River Wear in a northerly direction back to the start, crossing the river via Belmont Viaduct back to Finchale Priory.
Parts of this trail can be muddy, so please wear appropriate footwear and have a change of shoes to wear to travel home in.
