Bring the stories of the Museum of Oxford to life through movement!

This 1-hour interactive workshop introduces children to Bharatanatyam, one of the world’s oldest classical Indian dance forms. Led by an experienced Oxford-based dance artist Shreya Kallingal young participants witness this dance form up close, try out fun basic dance steps to traditional music learn how to bring the stories of Oxford history museum to life with emotive hand gestures. No dance experience required!

Shreya (she/her) is an Oxford-based dance artist with over two decades of experience in Bharatanatyam. Passionate about making South Asian dance accessible and joyful, Shreya  believes dance is a wonderful way for children to connect with history, culture, and each other.

The session runs from 11.00-12.00 and 14.00-15.00. The session will start at the advertised time so please arrive a few minutes before so we can check you into the event.

This workshop is suitable for ages 6-11. Children must be supervised at all times.

Tickets cost £4 per child and can be purchased online via our website or at the Museum Shop. Each child ticket includes free entry for one accompanying adult. This event ticket includes access to the Galleries for one child and one adult.

We recommend booking in advance to secure your place. Sales from tickets help support our work to deliver fun and accessible family activities, community engagement projects, schools’ workshops, exhibitions and special events for Oxford’s people in our Museum spaces.

 Access

 There is step-free, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax Tower (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift to the Galleries and then a lift to the basement.

Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor, before entering the Museum.
