Walking from The Monument to Tower Hill
(meeting point outside Fish Street Hill
This walk will look at the outside of The Monument to the Great Fire
completed 11 years after the devastating inferno of 1666, and hear how research has rediscovered the location of the baker’s oven where the blaze began. We’ll also be visiting a street with sculpture and buildings linked to diarist Samuel Pepys, the site of the famous Victorian Coal Exchange lost to 1960s road-widening, and the story of an unusually- named chapel, which began its life in the City but is now in Mayfair.
