Hours: 17.5 weekly
2 year fixed term contract at the national living wage ( £12.71 an hour from April 2026 ) £11,566 per annum (Pro Rata)
Who We Are
This role provides an opportunity to join a small community led regeneration charity. Maindee Unlimited was set up 10 years ago to improve the environment, social and economic fabric of Maindee, and generally make it a better place to live and work in.
We have a Greening Maindee team of volunteers who work to green up Maindee, creating and maintaining community gardens and green spaces and creating more green infrastructure.
We also run Maindee Community Pantry which picks up food from supermarkets which would end up in landfill and distributes it at pantry sessions 3 days a week. We run Maindee Library, which is staffed with volunteers, and various events. Please check us out at www.maindee.org
Brief job outline
The post holder will divide their time between supporting Greening Maindee ( 1 day a week ), taking part in Green Careers training opportunities and workshops ( 1 day a week ), and supporting the charity around community engagement, including social media and some admin tasks for the rest of the hours. You will report to the Greening Maindee lead and the charities chairperson
Where this job happens
You will be working outside for one day a week ( Fridays ) with the Greening Maindee team at sites within Maindee
Face to face Green Careers workshops in Newport and online.
Some time in Maindee Library
From home on a laptop.
Duties and Responsibilities
Working with the Greening Maindee team to implement goals in the Maindee Nature Plan and form part of the Friday working group
Making the most of the opportunities within Green Careers Pathways to learn new green skills
Supporting the charity’s administrator to perform admin tasks ie creating fliers, social media posts
Filling in on the pantry and library rota following training when necessary
Supporting the charity to improve its sustainability aspirations including training and taking part in networking opportunities
Keep accurate and up to date weekly time sheets
Experience and qualifications
A good working knowledge of IT systems including Word, design packages - essential
Good writing and oral skills - desirable
Personal attributes
A willingness to learn new skills and be proactive in identifying skills that will benefit you and the charity
A good team player. Comfortable with working with others
The ability to use your initiative in situations
The ability to plan your own time , keep a diary, and maintain good written records of work and learning
The ability to listen and take instructions
Be flexible and be able to adapt
