Welcome to the Weald & Downland Living Museum

We are the living heart of rural history, saving and sharing the buildings, skills and ways of the Weald and Downland so everyone can hold that thread of connection, and know they belong. Ordinary lives are made to feel vividly present as you step inside over 50 rescued historic and working buildings, travelling through 1,000 years of rural life, learning the human and material stories that each has to tell.

You’re encouraged to get involved too. This is a hands-on, ‘Do Touch’ place for all ages. From family discoveries to craft training and accredited study, we turn experience into lasting learning. Come rain or shine, there is always something to discover, from the changing landscapes, seasonal traditions, welcoming events, good food and space to slow down.

Because rural life isn’t just the past, it matters now. Connecting us, teaching sustainable skills, and keeping rural life alive for generations to come.
